In a small tranquil village of fishermen and berry farmers, an American-born man of Japanese descent stands trial for his life in the death of another village resident. With post-war anti-Japanese tensions still coloring the background of the village, childhood friendships and romances underlie the truth of the tragedy and ultimately the outcome of the trial.
