This film tells the career of the young architect/sculptor, Maya Lin, in chronological order, using mostly interview and documentary footage. It begins with the amazing start of her career, the creation of the Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial and the controversy that surrounded the design. Then, goes on to depict the creation of several other pieces, including the memorial for slain civil rights workers, a house, the fountain commemorating women at Yale, the Museum of African Art in New York City, and a variety of sculptures, including a self-portrait in lead and beeswax. The film charts the fascinating process that Lin goes through in taking the abstract (“a strong clear vision”) and turning it into a concrete form.
