Synopsis revealed for Godzilla vs. Kong prequel comic Kingdom Kong

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Back in 2017, Legendary Comics released a 4-part comic book series called Skull Island: The Birth of Kong, which functioned as both a sequel and a prequel to the film KONG: SKULL ISLAND (which you can watch on Amazon Prime). The Kong we were introduced to in KONG: SKULL ISLAND will be returning in next year's "MonsterVerse" crossover GODZILLA VS. KONG, and there's going to be another Kong comic book that will serve as a prequel to that film.

Godzilla vs. Kong: Kingdom Kong is set to reach store shelves on March 30, 2021, and Kaiju News Outlet got their hands on a synopsis for the comic book:

A sequel to the graphic novel Skull Island: Birth of Kong and a prelude to the film Godzilla vs. Kong, the upcoming Kong prequel graphic novel will follow a group of highly skilled military pilots gathered together on Skull Island to see who has 'the right stuff' to take on a dangerous mission into the Hollow Earth.

One of the pilots, Audrey, is haunted by the memories of a monstrous clash with one of Godzilla's titanic rivals that left deep scars. When Skull Island is attacked by Camazotz, a bat-like Titan, Audrey must come to terms with her inner demons, and finding his home newly threatened, Kong must rise to face this usurper that would plunge the world into perpetual night.

So fans who pick up this comic will get to see some new Kong vs. kaiju action two months before GODZILLA VS. KONG's theatrical release on May 21, 2021. Directed by Adam Wingard from a screenplay by Mike Dougherty and Terry Rossio, GODZILLA VS. KONG has the following synopsis:

In a time when monsters walk the Earth, humanity’s fight for its future sets Godzilla and Kong on a collision course that will see the two most powerful forces of nature on the planet collide in a spectacular battle for the ages. As Monarch embarks on a perilous mission into uncharted terrain and unearths clues to the Titans’ origins, a human conspiracy threatens to wipe the creatures, both good and bad, from the face of the earth forever.

We have a while longer to wait for it, but we already know the film has a running time of 105 minutes and is rated PG-13 for "intense sequences of creature violence/destruction and brief language."

The film stars Alexander Skarsgard, Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, Eiza Gonzalez, Jessica Henwick, Julian Dennison, Demian Bichir, Millie Bobby Brown, Kyle Chandler, Shun Oguri, Godzilla, and Kong.
