Get ready to eat thunder and crap lightning for charity, because Sylvester Stallone is gearing up to host a livestream showing of ROCKY as part of the new weekly “Screening Room With The Stars” series.
Presented by Creative Artists Agency, the "Screening Room With The Stars" initiative will benefit organization's looking to provide aid for recovery for communities affected by the coronavirus pandemic (including World Health Organization, #FirstRespondersFirst, DonorsChoose and America’s Food Fund). Beginning on Thursday when ROCKY helps to launch the series, viewers can donate during the screening, knowing that their dollars are going to those who need them most.
Every week, the CAA will present a new film that stars from the project will host. Each selection will stream via the movie's studio official Facebook page every Thursday at 4 p.m. PT. With regard to ROCKY, the stream will happen over on the MGM Studios' page. Additionally, as a way to sweeten the experience and entice viewers to get involved, fans will be afforded the opportunity to ask questions about the film as it continues to play.
"We are grateful to the big-hearted clients and studios who have made these special experiences happen on Facebook,” Richard Lovett, president of CAA said in a statement. “We hope audiences have a great time revisiting these classic movies in the company of the stars.”
After the CAA touches gloves with ROCKY, the organization has announced that the second film to screen for the charity series is MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING. This event will be hosted by screenwriter Nia Vardalos, who also happened to star as Toula for the 2002 romantic comedy.
While I'm not certain that I'll tune in for the screening of MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING, I'm more than willing to step into the ring for an interactive presentation of Stallone's ROCKY. Growing up, my mother and sister were positively obsessed with Rocky Balboa, and by extension, Sylvester Stallone. As time ticked on, I too had become a major fan of Stallone's work, including his roles as John Rambo, Marion Cobretti of director George P. Cosmatos' COBRA, and of course, John Spartan of DEMOLITION MAN, who taught us all that citations from "The Man" can make for good toilet paper.
Be sure to visit MGM Studios' Facebook page this Thursday at 4 p.m. PT when the Watch Party for ROCKY goes live. Oh, and don't forget to bring your wallet, because every little bit helps. Happy viewing, everybody!
