Following the release of RAMBO: LAST BLOOD this past weekend, Sylvester Stallone has shared a heartfelt video to his personal Twitter account in which the Italian Stallion thanks his fans for their support of the John Rambo character throughout the years.
In the video, a bruised, bloodied and wistful Stallone tells his audience: "So, this is kind of an unusual moment. This is a movie called "Last Blood," and obviously it's the great-grandson of "First Blood," and I'm about to have "last blood" removed for the … last time. Anyway, thank you guys very, very much for being there for all these years. I know it's been a hell of a ride. We're all a part of the family. Take care."
You can watch Stallone's short but oh-so-sweet send-off below:
Interestingly enough, Stallone prefaces his video by tweeting "After #Rambo’s final battle…" Do you think he means the final battle of RAMBO: LAST BLOOD? Or does Stallone perhaps mean that this is the end of the Rambo franchise altogether?
Sadly, the box office numbers for RAMBO: LAST BLOOD have been less than ideal, which could mean that any plans for another chapter or even a reboot of the property are now in flux. The film was bested during its opening weekend by both Michael Engler's DOWNTON ABBEY as well as the Brad Pitt-led space drama AD ASTRA. With only $19 million in domestic ticket sales as of Sunday, it sounds as if mixed reviews got the better of John Rambo during the debut of his final battle.
Regardless of how you feel about RAMBO: LAST BLOOD, there's no denying that we've reached the end of an era for one of Stallone's most beloved characters. Thankfully, the actions of John Rambo are legend, no matter how you feel about his final bow. In the end, the character will continue to be looked upon as one of the greatest contributions to the action genre, and those of us who delight in declaring John Rambo one of our worst nightmares will carry the torch for him for many years to come.
