Sylvester Stallone set to start filming Rambo 5 later this year

This was quite surprising news to come across, given that Sylvester Stallone said he was retired from the role of Rambo two and a half years ago: included on Millennium Media’s distribution sales slate at the Cannes Film Festival is RAMBO V, which the company is financing and is looking to get into production later this year, with Stallone attached to reprise the role of John J. Rambo one more time.

Avi Lerner and Kevin King will be producing RAMBO V. A director has not yet been announced, but Matt Cirulnick has written a screenplay that Stallone is currently polishing.

The new film in the franchise will find Rambo 

living in a ranch in Arizona, deeply troubled and wrestling with PTSD as he picks up casual work wherever he can.

When long-time family friend and estate manager Maria informs Rambo that her grand-daughter has gone missing after crossing into Mexico for a party, he sets off with her to find the youngster.

What ensues is a violent descent into hell as Rambo uncovers a sex-trafficking ring. He teams up with a journalist whose half-sister has also been kidnapped and must deploy all his skills to save the girls and bring down a vicious crime lord.

This “Rambo vs. a Mexican cartel” idea is one Stallone has been floating around pretty much ever since 2008’s RAMBO hit theatres – and while RAMBO would have been a perfect ending for the series, I have always wanted to see this Mexico-set sequel come to fruition, so I was glad to be surprised by the news that it’s still in the works.

Millennium has RAMBO V scheduled to start filming on September 1st. Although the settings are Arizona and Mexico, filming locations will include London, Bulgaria, and the Canary Islands.

Stallone has not yet commented on the RAMBO V news; it will be interesting to see what he has to say when he does.
