No one builds hype like Sylvester Stallone and he has certainly been doing that vi Instagram posts regarding the director’s cut of Rocky IV. Every bit of news we have received has come from Stallone first hand so it’s only fitting that he has taken to Instagram yet again to reveal that the director’s cut is hitting screens in November.
Titled Rocky Vs. Drago – The Ultimate Director’s Cut, Stallone has confirmed that the film will have a theatrical release on November 11, 2021. The caption on the Instagram post reads “Opening in theaters Nov.11! WIDE SCREEN AND 4 K…So proud of all the technicians that did a great job in bringing this film & battle to life in an amazing way. Depending on who you ask, Rocky IV is either one of the most crowd-pleasing of the Rocky films or just one long music video montage. The film certainly was a hit when it was released in 1985 and it became the highest-grossing sports movie for 24 years before being overtaken by The Blind Side. It is the most financially successful Rocky film as well, grossing $127.8 million at the domestic box office and $300 million worldwide. In the film, the Soviet Union and its top boxer make an entrance into professional boxing with their best athlete Ivan Drago, played by Dolph Lundgren. He initially wants to take on World champion Rocky Balboa but Rocky’s best friend Apollo Creed decides to fight him instead but is fatally beaten in the ring. Enraged, Rocky decides to fight Drago in the Soviet Union to avenge the death of his friend and defend the honor of his country. The film also stars Burt Young, Talia Shire, Carl Weathers, Tony Burton, Brigitte Nielsen, and Michael Pataki.
Stallone previously took to his Instagram page and showcased a new poster to his 13.1 million followers. The photo was posted with the caption “Coming pretty soon. It will Premier in Philly which is going to be fantastic!” This indicates that Philadelphia fans will be the first to see the director’s cut which is fitting since it is the home of Rocky. After its Philly debut, I’m sure we’ll all have a chance to see this new cut of the film on the big screen.
