Sylvester Stallone is box office champ again, and this time he has more reason to celebrate. When The Suicide Squad hit the number one spot last week, Stallone accomplished a feat that not a lot of lead actors can brag about. The actor, who voices King Shark in the DC Comics film, has now had the number one film at the box office in six consecutive decades. In that time, Stallone has released 46 films and 20 of them were number one at the box office.
Let’s break down how the decades represent themselves in Stallone’s filmography:
1970s: Rocky
1980s: Rambo: First Blood
1990s: Cliffhanger
2000s: Driven
2010s: The Expendables
2020s: The Suicide Squad
Some of the number one films on this list also brought some significant accolades for the actor. Rocky landed Oscars for Best Picture, Best Director (John G. Avildsen), and Best Film Editing. Stallone was also nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role that year. Cliffhanger was also nominated for three Oscars including, Best Sound, Best Sound Effects Editing, and Best Visual Effects.
Not to give him more bragging rights, but during the height of his career, Stallone also was the face of two separate juggernaut franchises with Rocky and Rambo. This is something that even Arnold Schwarzenegger can’t claim in the battle of action stars that rule the ’80s.
