Folks, sometimes dreams do come true. All of my life, I’ve idolized Sylvester Stallone. From as far back as I can remember, I’ve been obsessed with his movies. Simply put, no other actor has had as profound and lasting an effect on pop culture as Stallone has. In my mind, it’s not even close. His films not only defined a generation, but he remains as vital and widespread a presence as ever as he enters his sixth decade of making movies. HIs new recut of Rocky IV: Rocky Vs Drago (check out my review) is an event, and Stallone sat for an interview to help promote its release (you can watch it digitally starting today)
Of all the characters he played, none have connected in quite the same way Rocky Balboa has. As I told him in my interview, there’s something about the character that seems to transcend race, gender, and culture – and Stallone gave a thoughtful reply about the character’s neutrality (the fact that Rocky only sees good and bad – nothing more) that struck home for me.
Indeed, this was a dream interview, and Sly was incredibly kind and generous with his time. He seemed to enjoy the chat, but one thing’s for sure – I was in heaven! So, check it out as we discuss Rocky’s place in pop culture and some of the fundamental changes he made to Rocky IV. And, if that wasn’t enough, Stallone also dropped a massive bombshell about a show he’s working on with none other than Taylor Sheridan, which sounds incredible. Indeed, it was one heck of a fun interview, and I was so lucky I got to do it. They say you should never meet your heroes, but Stallone more than lived up to his iconic stature for me. Indeed, he’s the greatest, and I’m thrilled I got to speak with him. He even gave JoBlo a shout-out and I name dropped Sylvester Stallone Revisited. Check it out!
