Syfy to adapt Dan Simmons’ Hyperion; Bradley Cooper & others producing

Dan Simmons' Hugo Award-winning novel Hyperion is getting the small screen treatment as a Syfy Channel event series. Boardwalk Empire and Men of a Certain Age scribe Itamar Moses will write the adaptation, and will also serve as a co-executive producer on the project alongside GK Films' Graham King (THE DEPARTED, ARGO), and Bradley Cooper and his THE HANGOVER director Todd Phillips through their 22nd and Green banner.

Cooper is apparently a big fan of the Hyperion Cantos series (the fourth and final book, The Rise of Endymion, was published in 1997), and said, “It is an absolute honor to enter into the world created by Dan Simmons that is arguably one of the greatest works of science fiction, and help realize it for television audiences."

Book description from Amazon:

On the world called Hyperion, beyond the law of the Hegemony of Man, there waits the creature called the Shrike. There are those who worship it. There are those who fear it. And there are those who have vowed to destroy it. In the Valley of the Time Tombs, where huge, brooding structures move backward through time, the Shrike waits for them all. On the eve of Armageddon, with the entire galaxy at war, seven pilgrims set forth on a final voyage to Hyperion seeking the answers to the unsolved riddles of their lives. Each carries a desperate hope–and a terrible secret. And one may hold the fate of humanity in his hands.

Bradley Cooper can be seen next in the John Wells-directed, Steven Knight-penned dramedy ADAM JONES on October 2, 2015, and Todd Phillips' ARMS AND THE DUDES starring Miles Teller and Jonah Hill will be in theaters on March 11, 2016.
