Swarm trailer: Donald Glover’s horror thriller series follows a music fan who has lost her mind

Two weeks ago, Amazon unveiled an unnerving teaser trailer for their horror thriller series Swarm, executive produced by Donald Glover. Now a full trailer has arrived online to give us a deeper look at the show’s story and characters, and you can check it out in the embed above.

With the logline “Murder. Sex. Music.”, Swarm stars Dominique Fishback (Judas and the Black Messiah) as Dre, a young woman whose obsession with a pop star takes a dark turn. Swarm will have its premiere at the SXSW festival next month, then it will be available to watch on Amazon Prime as of March 17th. All of the episodes will be released on that date.

Glover created Swarm with Atlanta co-executive producer Janine Nabers and directed the pilot episode. Glover and Nabers executive produced the show together, and Nabers also served as showrunner. In addition to the show’s creators, Malia Obama and Karen Joseph Adcock (How I Met Your Father) are also on the writing staff.

Glover – who raps under the name Childish Gambino – had the initial idea for a show about a woman who’s obsessed with a pop star and pitched it to Nabers, who happens to be from Houston, which is home to artists like Lizzo, Megan Thee Stallion, and Beyoncé. Speaking with Vanity Fair, Glover said, “We just thought it’d be fun to make a post-truth Piano Teacher mixed with The King of Comedy.

Nabers added, “We were really interested in creating an antihero story.” She referenced messy TV antiheroes like Don Draper of Mad Men and Tony Soprano of The Sopranos as sources of inspiration, inspiration that was then filtered “through the lens of a Black, modern-day woman.

Fishback is joined in the cast by recording artist Chloe Bailey as Dre’s sister Marissa and Damson Idris (Snowfall) as her charismatic boyfriend.
