Producer James Wan's upcoming DC Universe series based on the DC Comics title SWAMP THING is really heating up. Most of the cast has been set for the series, and today we have word via The Wrap that said cast has grown a bit more as SHARKNADO star Ian Ziering has officially signed on to play Daniel Cassidy aka Blue Devil (see above) in a recurring role.
Here's a rundown on Blue Devil via The Wrap:
Stuntman-turned-movie star Daniel Cassidy became semi-famous after playing the demonic Blue Devil. But now, eight years later, Cassidy finds himself living out his days in frustration, pining for his former fame while on a collision course with destiny. In the comics version of the story, that includes Cassidy becoming physically bonded with the Blue Devil suit, complete with an exoskeleton, he used for the “Blue Devil” movie that exists in the “Swamp Thing” universe.
The actor's co-stars on Swamp Thing will include Andy Bean as biologist Alec Holland, whose "conflict with dark forces" leads to him becoming the title character, and Crystal Reed as CDC Doctor Abby Arcane, who
investigates what seems to be a deadly swamp-born virus in a small town in Louisiana but soon discovers that the swamp holds mystical and terrifying secrets. When unexplainable and chilling horrors emerge from the murky marsh, no one is safe.
Also in the cast are Maria Sten, Jeryl Prescott, Jennifer Beals, Virginia Madsen, Will Patton, Henderson Wade, with Kevin Durand has been cast in the role of Jason Woodrue, and Derek Mears as Swamp Thing himself. James Wan's company Atomic Monster is producing Swamp Thing in association with Warner Bros. Television. Len Wiseman is directing the pilot episode, which was written by Mark Verheiden and Gary Dauberman. Wan, Wiseman, Verheiden, and Dauberman also serve as executive producers on the series with Michael Clear. Rob Hackett is co-producer.
SWAMP THING will premiere on the DC Universe streaming service sometime in 2019.
