All good hunts must come to an end. It was announced today that Supernatural will be concluding with its fifteenth and final season. That's one hell of a run for what has become the longest running series on The CW. Stars Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, and Misha Collins took to Instagram today to reveal the news in a video, with Ackles saying, "We just told the crew that even though we’re very very excited to be moving into our 15th season, it will be our last. 15 years of a show that has certainly changed my life, I know it’s changed these two guys’ lives, and we just wanted you to hear from us that though we’re excited about next year, it will be the finale." Check out the videos for yourself below.
The final season will consist of 20 episodes which will hopefully bring the adventures of Sam and Dean Winchester to an epic and satisfying conclusion. In a joint statement, Supernatural executive producers Robert Singer and Andrew Dabb said, "Firstly, we would like to thank all the people who have been involved with the show both in front of and behind the camera. For us it has been an experience of a lifetime. The support we have had from both Warner Bros Television and The CW has been incredible. We’d like to give special thanks to Jensen, Jared and Misha for making this journey so special. It is now most important to us to give these characters that we love the send off they deserve." By the time Supernatural draws to a close, it will have aired 327 episodes. Not bad for a series which creator Eric Kripke had planned to bring to an end after five seasons. Truth be told, although I had watched the series since the very beginning, I bowed out after season 5, and it's only been in the last few years that I've caught up with the nearly decades-worth of stories which I've missed out on. It couldn't go on forever and it's probably for the best that they finally have an end in sight, but I'm definitely going to miss Sam and Dean. Supernatural is nearing the end of it's fourteenth season at the moment, so we'll have to wait and see if the season finale sets up the Winchester's last adventure.
What do you think of Supernatural coming to an end? Should it have happened ages ago or does the series still have some life in it?
