Supernatural thriller SHOMER, which is being described as a 'Polanski-esque version of THE EXORCIST', is materializing with “The White Queen” star Aneurin Barnard on board and Lawrence Bender (INGLORIOUS BASTERDS), Lauren Selig and Ray Ricord producing, according to Variety.
The project was unveiled on the eve of the American Film Market. Exclusive Media has picked up international rights to SHOMER and will be selling them at AFM. The film is in pre-production and will be directed by Spanish filmmaker Guillem Morales (JULIA'S EYES) from a script by David Abram Nahmod. Len Blavatnik of Access Industries will exec produce with Aviv Giladi and Vince Holden of AI Film. Giladi is also financing.
In the film Barnard will portray…
…a 25-year-old man chosen to be a shomer, a person required by ancient biblical law to stay with a corpse and recite prayers until final burial. As he begins his overnight vigil with the body of a doctor, inexplicable occurrences begin to take place that show a powerful evil possessing the corpse.
Actually, that sounds kinda freaky right there. I'm down!
Hopefully we'll be hearing more casting news on SHOMER coming down the line in the next few weeks.
