Superman prequel series Metropolis featuring Lois Lane & Luthor on the way

Look! What's that coming over the horizon? Is it a bird, a plane? Well, not excatly. It would appear that GOTHAM executive producers John Stephens and Danny Cannon and Warner Bros. TV are looking to create yet another television show based on DC Comics' Man of Steel, only this time, Lois Lane and supervillain Lex Luthor will be the focus of a live-action TV series called METROPOLIS.

Going into production later this year, METROPOLIS will join the likes of WBTV's TITANS, Warner Bros. Animation’s Harley Quinn, and Young Justice: Outsiders as a part of the forthcoming DC-branded streaming service, which is expected to launch later next year.

Set in the wondrous and awe-inspiring City of Tomorrow before the arrival of Superman, Metropolis, based on the DC characters, follows Lois Lane and Lex Luthor as they investigate the world of fringe science and expose the city’s dark and bizarre secrets. Stephens and Cannon will serve as executive producers on the new show. Meanwhile, Cannon will direct the first episode, from a teleplay by Stephens, from a story written by both Cannon and Stephens.

For those of you keeping score at home, yes, METROPOLIS is poised to be the second Superman prequel series in the works, following SYFY's upcoming KRYPTON drama from David S. Goyer, Damian Kindler and DC/Warner Bros. TV. While KRYPTON will be set 200 years before the birth of Kal-El (Superman), METROPOLIS is expected to explore both Lois Lane and Lex Luthor's diametrically opposed views of how the world must change, and the steps society can take toward building a better tomorrow.
