Superman: Legacy filming window and plot synopsis revealed

A new Superman: Legacy plot synopsis points to James Gunn’s film revolving around the Man of Steel’s Kryptonian heritage.

With Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom barely treading water with reviewers, DC Studios is likely excited to reboot the brand and start fresh with James Gunn’s forthcoming superhero film, Superman: Legacy. Much rides on Gunn’s ability to bring the Man of Steel into a new and exciting era, and fans are eager for hints about the filmmaker’s vision. Thankfully, details from Production List confirm that principal photography for Superman: Legacy takes flight on March 4, 2024. In addition to information about when cameras roll, a plot synopsis for the highly-anticipated film has been revealed.

While the description is brief, the summary reads: “Superman, a cub reporter in Metropolis, embarks on a journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent.”

Superman: Legacy will star David Corenswet as the Man of Steel, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. Isabela Merced also stars as Hawkgirl, with Nathan Fillion as the Green Lantern Guy Gardner, Sean Gunn as Maxwell Lord, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Anthony Carrigan as Rex Mason, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, and Maria Gabriela de Faria as Angela Spica.

While story details are light, Gunn plans to give characters time to shine in the new film. In other words, you likely won’t find too many cameos or meaningless fan service in Gunn’s Superman film. When asked about including cameos in his forthcoming DC films, Gunn said, “I call that ‘cameo porn’ and it has been one of the worst elements of recent superhero films. If a character is in a film, they have to have a reason to be there story-wise.” Gunn eased up a bit by stating that minor appearances are fine if they don’t disrupt the story, but also, “it’s the plot contrivances that develop from a cameo, not the cameo itself.”

Are you excited to learn more about Gunn’s Superman: Legacy? Does the casting call sound like too many characters are already in the film? How fleshed out do you think Fillion’s Guy Gardner will be? Does Gunn have time to introduce the Green Lantern Corp in Superman: Legacy? We’ll find out soon enough, I suppose.
