Superman: Legacy: David Corenswet teases his super-physique and James Gunn showcases his inspiration

James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy is shaping up as more and more details get revealed. For an introduction to a new continuity, Gunn’s direction seemingly bypasses all origin groundwork and drops the audience smack dab into a world where a population of superhero characters is already established. It’s recently been announced that María Gabriela de Faría will be portraying a member of The Authority named The Engineer. She joins Guy Gardner, Hawkgirl, Mister Terrific and Metamorpho as DC characters who will also be making appearances.

Now that the strikes are over and productions can move forward, it’s back to work for the Superman: Legacy crew and David Corenswet’s super progress is being displayed on social media along with James Gunn’s tease for his inspiration. Hollywood fitness and health trainer Paolo Masciti has been given the task of transforming Corenswet into the picturesque Kryptonian. According to MovieWeb, Masciti took to his Instagram to showcase Corenswet in training as the new man of steel is already donning tights, albeit athletic tights, and showing off his bulk with the caption simply reading, “THE LEGACY.”

Corenswet is starting to look the part. Funny enough, back in 2019, Corenswet had noted that playing Superman was a dream of his. In an old Entertainment Weekly interview, he indicated that his interpretation would take the big, blue boy scout back to its classic optimism, “My pie-in-the-sky ambition is definitely to play Superman. I would love to see somebody do an upbeat, throwback [take on Superman]. I love the Henry Cavill dark and gritty take, but I would love to see the next one be very bright and optimistic.”

Corenswet’s training image isn’t the only teaser being used to whet the appetites of fans. Gunn has also posted a photo on Instagram that showcases his production office displaying artwork from the comic, Superman: For All Seasons. Gunn recently confirmed that the production is still on track for its July 2025 release despite the strikes delaying productions. “Thanks to the efforts of our talented crew, who never lost faith during the longest strikes in Hollywood history, and who never let their foot off the pedal, continuing to barrel forward, creating the most amazing character and set designs I’ve seen in my entire career, #SupermanLegacy will be making the originally planned release date of July 11, 2025.”
