How many DC Universes are we going to get in our visual media?
It would appear at least two right now with the news that the TV version of The Flash, played by Grant Gustin, will be leaving the confines of his solo series on The CW for a guest appearance on SUPERGIRL over on CBS. Mark your calendars for March 28, as that is when the crossover is set to happen, and while details of the episode are limited, it looks as if the visit will only be in one direction. Therefore, don’t expect Melissa Benoist‘s Supergirl to show up on any of The CW’s shows for the time being… at least not yet.
Per Deadline, the reason The Flash is able to make the jump is due to Barry Allen’s ability to cross dimensions on the show, and the crossover would remain consistent with what is happening on THE FLASH currently, following the opening of a dimensional rift that has now created Earth One and Earth Two.
In a statement expressing their excitement on what’s to come, executive producers Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg had the following to say…
We are so incredibly excited to announce something that we have dreamed of happening since we starting making Supergirl. We want to thank Grant Gustin for making the time to come visit (on top of his already immense workload) and all of the folks at CBS, The CW, Warner Bros. and DC for working this out. And finally thanks to the fans and journalists who have kept asking for this to happen. It is our pleasure and hope to create an episode worthy of everyone’s enthusiasm and support.
The DC multiverse is real. Now the big question moving ahead – How far are they willing to go with it?
