Oh SUPER 8, how very elusive you are. No matter how non-linear and vague your virals may be, we’ll still eat this up like candy. Why? Cuz it’s just too damn fun.
HOWEVER, Production Weekly and Comingsoon.net have just released information pertaining to the film’s shooting schedule and even more a bit about the film. Even though the teaser trailer was released, months before filming would even begin, there is some light shining on the matter. Filming will began sometime in late September. Shooting is set to primarily take place in Weirton, West Virginia. So how did this sneak under our radar while we were combing through every frame in the teaser? The answer may be because we weren’t looking at it right.
A couple of casting calls near Weirton, West Virginia have been noted to be eerily similar. One project called DARLINGS is about “a 14-year-old boy and is set in a steel town in 1979.” Sounds about right. Another casting call under the name WICKHAM is looking for “middle school and high school aged people, police, soldier and EMT types as well as townspeople.” So what does this have to do with Abram’s sci-fi flick? Besides the similarity of the two films, this confirms the speculation that Abrams was busy this summer with casting. WICKHAM’s plot revolves around “a train crash [that] forces the town to come together.” Train crash eh?
Whether or not Abrams has chosen who his young actors will be, this project seems to be under lock and key until further release of, well…anything. It’s a good thing though, if I might add, that we’re starting to see this sucker moving. After the initial and mind-boggling teaser trailer that was placed in front of IRON MAN 2, the general reaction for SUPER 8 has been pretty much the same. What the hell did I just watch?
Check back here as we get more details on the film which I suspect, as time moves forward, we will be getting much of. In the meantime check out the original teaser trailer here!
