Super Mario Bros. Movie: Chris Pratt says fans should prepare to get “blown away” by the teaser trailer

Super Mario Bros., animated movie, Chris Pratt

Nintendo is getting ready to unveil the first Super Mario Bros. Movie teaser trailer on Thursday, and Chris Pratt is firing up the hype machine. The teaser is part of a special Nintendo Direct presentation attached to New York City Comic-Con. The livestream event starts at 1:05 pm Pacific / 4:05pm Eastern / 9:05pm UK. Nintendo has stressed that the presentation does not include game footage, so don’t prepare yourself for pre-order madness.

Pratt tweeted the film’s gorgeous teaser poster yesterday alongside a message to fans, saying they should “get ready to be blown away!” Paranoia and skepticism surround Nintendo’s Super Mario Bros. Movie like a haunt of Boos inside Bowser’s Castle. This growing fear stems from how Pratt has teased his Mario voice for the upcoming film. He is excited to play the character, though Mario fans have adopted a wait-and-see approach to the big reveal. A lot is riding on Nintendo’s Super Mario Bros. Movie teaser because it could make or break people’s enthusiasm for the film. Nintendo hopes to get a piece of that sweet box office cash after watching Paramount’s Sonic the Hedgehog race to the top of the charts. If the Mario Bros. movie succeeds, it could launch a Nintendo Universe initiative on the silver screen.

Chris Pratt isn’t the only high-profile name attached to voice an iconic character in the Super Mario Bros. Movie. Anya Taylor-Joy (Princess Peach), Charlie Day (Luigi), Jack Black (Bowser), Seth Rogen (Donkey Kong), and Keegan-Michael Key (Toad) also star, with Fred Armisen, Kevin Michael Richardson, and Sebastian Maniscalco.

I’m genuinely curious and excited to be “blown away” by tomorrow’s teaser trailer. I hope the footage is a decent length, and we’re not hyping ourselves up for a 25-second tour of the Mushroom Kingdom. Given the nature of the event, I think we’ll experience something that could get us pumped about the movie.

Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic direct from a screenplay by Matthew Fogel. The Super Mario Bros. Movie was pushed back from its initial release date after Sonic the Hedgehog 2 grossed $404.1+ worldwide. As I said, Nintendo wants their Mario Bros. movie to hit like a Hammer Brother on anabolic steroids, so a bit of retooling is no surprise.

Are you excited about tomorrow’s Super Mario Bros. Movie teaser trailer? Do you think Chris Pratt’s Mario voice will be well-received by fans? I hope so. Otherwise, it will be an exhaustive journey to the movie’s April 7, 2023, release date.
