Apple TV+ is looking to get a little sugar from Colin Farrell. No, not that kind of sugar. Get your head out of the gutter. I’m talking about Sugar, a new series from creator Mark Protosevich (Thor). Plot details have not been revealed, though we know that Farrell will star and executive produce alongside Protosevich, Simon Kinberg (Deadpool), Audrey Chon (Invasion), Scott Greenberg, Chip Vucelich, and Fernando Meirelles, with Meirelles directing.
Sugar is the second project to come to Apple TV+ through Kinberg’s Genre Films, in addition to the recently-renewed sci-fi drama Invasion. After starring in the HBO anthology True Detective, Sugar marks another television role for Farrell. He is also reprising his role as Oswald Coobblepot for WB’s The Batman spinoff series focusing on the Penguin.
Meanwhile, cinephiles know Protosevich as the writer of films like The Cell, Poseidon, I Am Legend, Thor, Oldboy, and soon, an action sci-fi flick titled Freakshow.
Farrell will star in the biographical drama Thirteen Lives by filmmaker Ron Howard. The plot centers on a rescue mission in Thailand where a group of young boys and their soccer coach are trapped in a system of underground caves that are flooding. Inspired by actual events, Thirteen Lives stars Joel Edgerton, Viggo Mortensen, Tom Batman, and Jane Larkin, among others.
We’ll let you know when more details for Protosevich’s Sugar come to light. In the meantime, are you excited about Farrell reprising his role as Oswald Cobblepot for the Penguin series? What do you think of WB’s other Batman spinoff series focusing on Arkham Asylum? What villains from the Dark Knight’s rogues gallery are you hoping to see in the new show? I’m hoping to see Clayface, Calendar Man, and the Ventriloquist. Let us know in the comments section below.
