With the premiere of the season finale of the hit show House of the Dragon, HBO teased the release of another acclaimed show, Succession, with a new trailer. The family business drama will follow the finale of the third season in December 2021, with a continuation in 2023. The fourth season ended with Brian Cox’s Logan Roy as he went against his children’s wishes of sanctioning a sale of Waystar Royco to Lukas Matsson.
A war between the family is surely imminent with the dramatic development of this sale. The official synopsis of season four details,
“The prospect of this seismic sale provokes existential angst and familial division among the Roys as they anticipate what their lives will look like once the deal is completed. A power struggle ensues as the family weighs up a future where their cultural and political weight is severely curtailed.”
Brian Cox, who plays the Roy patriarch, Logan, is no stranger to being outspoken about things he doesn’t find logical, and he has been vehement about the show not continuing any longer than it has to. “No one’s had their contracts renewed. Who knows how long it will go on? We don’t want it to overstay its welcome, like [Showtime’s] Billions; that’s past its sell-by date. That will not happen with our show.”
After season 3, Cox assured viewers that a sale of the family business doesn’t mean the stories of Logan will also get downsized as there’s always “life in Logan that comes up.” He explains, “[The Roy siblings] write Logan off from time to time; they always put impediments in his way, ‘Oh, he’s got a UTI; oh, he’s hurt his leg.’ They’re always trying to scupper him in some way — the writers are as well — but Logan is a force of nature. He just keeps on going. And he’s a man of incredible reserve. He’s an extraordinary survivor — he has been all his life — and so I would not guarantee anything on that front, quite frankly.”
