Student Body trailer: slasher starring Harley Quinn Smith comes to VOD next week

Back in November, we heard that 1091 Pictures had acquired the North American distribution rights to the slasher horror film Student Body and were planning to give the film a digital and on demand release on February 8th. With that release date less than a week away, we’ve gotten our hands on the trailer for the film, and you can watch it in the embed above.

The feature debut of writer / director Lee Ann Kurr, Student Body follows

a group of students at a prestigious high school where a teacher oversteps his bounds and the teens are forced to take matters into their own hands, with deadly consequences.

The film stars Harley Quinn Smith (Cruel Summer), Montse Hernandez (Jane the Virgin), Cheyenne Haynes (Camping), Austin Zajur (Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark), Christian Camargo (Witch Hunt), and Anthony Keyvan (Love, Victor).

Kurr produced Student Body with Rachel Liu and Sandra Leviton. Motion Picture Exchange represents the worldwide rights to the film.

1091’s Eric Min had this to say about Student Body:

We were really impressed with Lee Ann’s directorial debut with this highly entertaining and elevated slasher flick that dives beyond the genre norms and offers a female-led perspective both onscreen and behind the camera. This film is a lot of fun and has the depth and ingenuity to appeal to both genre fans and mainstream audiences.”

I was already sold on Student Body as soon as I saw the description “slasher” paired with the synopsis and the cast list. Now the trailer has confirmed that there’s no way I’m going to miss out on this one. I love slashers too much… even if we don’t see the masked killer slashing anyone with a blade in the trailer. The killer’s weapon of choice appears to be a hammer, and yet we still call movies like this slashers because there is no “hammerer” subgenre.
