Strays animated comedy to star Will Ferrell, Jamie Foxx, and Will Forte

Will Ferrell (Zoolander, Stranger Than Fiction), Jamie Foxx (Spider-Man: No Way Home, Project Power), and Will Forte (MacGruber, The Last Man on Earth) will soon be wagging their tails for Universal’s Strays. The Strays animated comedy is a live-action CGI hybrid affair that skews in an adult direction. Directed by Josh Greenbaum (Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar), the film follows an abandoned dog who teams up with other strays to get revenge on his former owner.

Ferrell will star as the abandoned dog while Foxx is one of the canines that try to help him out. Forte will play the nasty human owner. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film was shot in the fall and is headed into post-production. Greenbaum’s Strays animated comedy was acquired from Picturestart and Lord Miller earlier this year. Jessica Switch is executive producing and Julia Hammer is co-producing for Picturestart. Nikki Baida will executive produce for Lord Miller. Erik Feig of Picturestart is also producing alongside Greenbaum, Louis Leterrier, Phil Lord, and Chris Miller.

Even though Strays is based on an original idea by writer Dan Perrault, I can’t help but feel like it reminds me an awful lot of the Image comic book series Stray Dogs. Although, Stray Dogs is billed as Lady and the Tramp meets Silence of the Lambs, so perhaps the two have nothing in common after all.

What do you think about the concept for Strays? Do you think it’s cool that Ferrell, Foxx, and Forte are teaming up for Greenbaum’s next directorial effort? I’m down to check out a trailer when it drops and find out more about this curious project.
