As most Upside Down dwellers know, the official Stranger Things Day is November 6th, marking the day Will Byers went missing in Hawkins in 1983. Fun…? With that comes the annual event, host of numerous goings-on and treats for fans. The most enticing and ominous reveal this year had to do with the upcoming fifth and final season.
Yesterday, it was announced that the debut episode of season five will be titled “The Crawl”, as seen in the below tweet:
But what does it mean exactly? One Twitter user pointed out that the term “crawl” has a direct relation to Dungeons & Dragons, a favorite game on the show. According to a quick web search, a crawl is “a type of scenario in fantasy role-playing games in which heroes navigate a labyrinth environment (a “dungeon”), battling various monsters, avoiding traps.” Definitely seems like something the Hawkins gang would get into.
It has become a bit of a tradition for fans to speculate what teased episode titles mean, And while “The Crawl” had leaked as the season five premiere title some time ago, the official announcement has put tin foil hats right back Stranger Things fanatics’ heads. Could it be Eddie crawling from the depths of Vecna’s control? Or the slow crawl of The Upside Down invading Hawkins? Or does it have the more direct DnD connection?
Regardless of “The Crawl”’s meaning, that little tease most certainly won’t be enough to hold the Stranger Things universe over for too long. With production not even started, they’ll have to wait quite some time, so here’s hoping that The Duffer Brothers will reveal the remaining seven episode titles in frequent fashion,
