Stranger Things season 4 teaser: 2022 release confirmed by Netflix

Earlier this week, Stranger Things producer Shawn Levy said we would know the premiere date for the show's fourth season "quite soon"… and while the teaser that just arrived online this morning doesn't give us an exact date, it does reveal that we won't be seeing Stranger Things season 4 before the end of 2021. It will be reaching the Netflix streaming service sometime in 2022.

Stranger Things season 4 will find that David Harbour's character Hopper is

imprisoned far from home in the snowy wasteland of Kamchatka, where he will face dangers both human… and other.

Meanwhile, back in the states, a new horror is beginning to surface, something long buried, something that connects everything.

Harbour is joined in the cast by returning stars Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, Joe Keery, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Sadie Sink, Maya Hawke, Priah Ferguson, Winona Ryder, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Cara Buono, and Brett Gelman, as well as new additions Robert Englund, Amybeth McNulty, Myles Truitt, Regina Ting Chen, Grace Van Dien, Jamie Campbell Bower, Eduardo Franco, Joseph Quinn, Tom Wlaschiha, Sherman Augustus, Mason Dye, Nikola Djuricko, and Levon Hawke. Judging by the teaser embedded above, Matthew Modine may be in the mix as well.

With season 4, Stranger Things is closing in on the end of its run. When asked if the show will end with season 5, Levy told Collider,

I have the end in sight. (Series creators The Duffer Brothers) have the end in sight. There is a plan and that too will be shared not quite as soon as a sense of when Season 4 is coming out, but soon enough. I can say this. No, one's making it up as we go along and there is an endgame, if you will."

But, of course, Netflix is interested in spin-offs. Levy said,

What's been made clear is there is an interest and a real voracious appetite for any offshoot, any other iteration format or extension of the franchise, the characters, the mythology. And certainly those conversations are hardly evolved, but they're also not non-existent."

We'll keep you updated on Stranger Things season 4 and beyond as more information is revealed. Hopefully the 2022 premiere date won't come too far into next year. I'm crossing my fingers for a January release.
