Horror icon Robert Englund is joining the cast of Netflix's Stranger Things in the currently-filming fourth season, and the role he's taking on sounds absolutely perfect for him. Especially considering how his "son of 100 maniacs" character Freddy Krueger was conceived.
Englund will be playing the recurring character Victor Creel, "a disturbed and intimidating man who is imprisoned in a psychiatric hospital for a gruesome murder in the 1950s."
Englund is one of eight actors whose Stranger Things season 4 casting has been announced today. Also joining the show are Jamie Campbell Bower, Eduardo Franco, and Joseph Quinn, who have series regular status, and Tom Wlaschiha, Sherman Augustus, Mason Dye, and Nikola Djuricko. Like Englund, those last four will have recurring roles.
Bower will be playing Peter Ballard, "a caring man who works as an orderly at a psychiatric hospital. Tired of the brutality he witnesses day after day, will Peter finally take a stand?"
Franco's character is Argyle, "a fun-loving stoner who proudly delivers delicious pizza pies for Surfer Boy Pizza." I've seen Franco in several comedies, and that sounds like some more perfect casting to me. Argyle will be friends with Charlie Heaton's character Jonathan.
Quinn takes on the role of Eddie Munson, "an audacious '80s metalhead who runs The Hellfire Club, Hawkins High's official D&D club. Hated by those who don’t understand him — and beloved by those who do — Eddie will find himself at the terrifying epicenter of this season's mystery."
Wlaschiha's role is Dmitri, "a Russian prison guard who befriends Hopper. Dmitri is smart, cunning, and charming… but can he be trusted?"
Augustus is playing Lt. Colonel Sullivan, "an intelligent, no-nonsense man who believes he knows how to stop the evil in Hawkins once and for all…"
Dye's character is Jason Carver, who "seemingly has it all — he's handsome, he's rich, he's a sports star, and he's dating the most popular girl in school. But as a new evil threatens Hawkins, Jason's perfect world begins to unravel…"
And Djuricko will play Yuri, "a seedy and unpredictable Russian smuggler who loves bad jokes, cold hard cash, and crunchy style peanut butter."
Stranger Things season 4 finds that David Harbour's character Hopper is
imprisoned far from home in the snowy wasteland of Kamchatka, where he will face dangers both human… and other.
Meanwhile, back in the states, a new horror is beginning to surface, something long buried, something that connects everything.
Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Joe Keery, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Sadie Sink, Maya Hawke, Priah Ferguson, Winona Ryder, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Cara Buono, and Brett Gelman also return from previous seasons.
Maya Hawke's brother Levon Hawke is making some kind of appearance in season 4 as well.
