Stranger Things season 4: release date will be announced ‘quite soon’

The fourth season of Netflix's hit series Stranger Things began filming at the start of 2020, but then production ran into a significant delay due to the pandemic. Filming resumed almost a year ago, and has stretched on longer than usual not just because of the extra precautions that have to be taken now, but also because the new season is said to be bigger and more ambitious than the previous ones… But after this long wait for more Stranger Things, producer Shawn Levy says we'll know the season's premiere date "quite soon".

Levy told Variety,

We have filmed in Georgia, Lithuania and New Mexico, so suffice to say Season 4 is sprawling. It’s visually and narratively very ambitious, much more ambitious than the prior three seasons. The delay is due in large measure to COVID and the pace at which we have to work to do so safely, but it also happens to be the season that we chose to go much bigger. It’s the scale of this season and the multi-settings of Season 4. It’s coming soon enough. And as for when exactly that will be announced — quite soon."

Stranger Things season 4 will find that David Harbour's character Hopper is

imprisoned far from home in the snowy wasteland of Kamchatka, where he will face dangers both human… and other.

Meanwhile, back in the states, a new horror is beginning to surface, something long buried, something that connects everything.

Harbour is joined in the cast by returning stars Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, Joe Keery, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Sadie Sink, Maya Hawke, Priah Ferguson, Winona Ryder, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Cara Buono, and Brett Gelman, as well as new additions Robert Englund, Amybeth McNulty, Myles Truitt, Regina Ting Chen, Grace Van Dien, Jamie Campbell Bower, Eduardo Franco, Joseph Quinn, Tom Wlaschiha, Sherman Augustus, Mason Dye, Nikola Djuricko, and Levon Hawke. Judging by the teaser embedded above, Matthew Modine may be in the mix as well.

The creative team behind Stranger Things have said that the delay was beneficial in a way, as it allowed the writers to get the scripts ready for every episode of the season before filming resumed. This is the first time the scripts for later episodes weren't being written in the midst of filming.
