Stranger Things season 5 may be set for a 2024 release, but in the time before it hits, fans may live in fear of an inevitable demise that could be in store for one or more characters. Recently, it was reported that series producer, Shawn Levy, has put the kibosh on the return of Eddie Munson, who he admits the writers were obsessed with along with the audience. However, Eddie joined Barb, Bob, and Alexi in season one-off characters that would be set up for doom. With the fifth season looming, the Duffer Brothers have said they resist adding new characters to focus on the OG crew.
So, what does this mean for our main cast of characters? According to Deadline, Maya Hawke, who plays Robin Buckley, recently told Rolling Stone that she would not be averse to her character going out in a hero moment.
Hawke explains,
“I would love to die and get my hero’s moment. I’d love to die with honor, as any actor would. But I love the way that the Duffer Brothers love their actors. The reason that they write so beautifully for me and for everyone else is because they fall in love with their actors and their characters, and they don’t want to kill them. I think that’s a beautiful quality that they have, and I wouldn’t wish it away.”
Hawke would go on to state that her character is Team Steve and Nancy. She explains that the relationship has a deeper meaning that she really appreciates. “I personally think that the thing that’s so beautiful about the show: it actually has never really been about romance,” Hawke says. “People are always shipping characters in that show, but really that show’s about friendship.”
Stranger Things season 4 made its way onto Netflix earlier this summer, and season 5 is due in 2024.
