Of all the fantastic actors and characters in Netflix's Stranger Things, who could have imagined that the one to immediately blow up would be Shannon Purser's dowdy Barb, the best friend of one of the main characters who only appears in four episodes? The character was kind of deified by the meme elite, who responded to her lack of cool and effortlessly 80's style, and now Purser has become a hot Hollywood commodity.
In addition to joining the Archie Comics-based series Riverdale and the Melissa McCarthy comedy LIFE OF THE PARTY, she has just been cast in the upcoming thriller WISH UPON, helmed by ANNABELLE's John R. Leonetti. She will be joining THE CONJURING's Joey King, who plays the lead.
In WISH UPON, from the Black List script by Barbara Marshall:
When 16-year-old misfit Claire finds a magic box that promises a chance at the life she’s always wanted, she never could have guessed that each wish would demand a deadly payment.
Knowing her track record, Shannon Purser will probably be targeted in said "deadly payment," don't you think?
WISH UPON is currently in pre-production with Sherryl Clark producing.
