Season 5 of the hit Netflix series Stranger Things is also going to be the final season of the show. It was supposed to be deep into production by now, but it has been slowed down due to the Hollywood strikes – first the writers strike (which is over, so Netflix is making the finishing of the Stranger Things season 5 scripts one of their top priorities), then the ongoing actors strike. It remains to be seen when filming is going to begin, but yesterday, November 6, 2023, was the 40th anniversary of the day Will Byers went missing in the town of Hawkins, Indiana in the first season of Stranger Things. So the show’s writers marked the occasion by sharing the first lines from the first episode of season 5 on social media:
Most fans are assuming this scene is a flashback with Will Byers singing “Should I Stay or Should I Go”, which makes sense for bringing the show full circle, especially since Will is supposed to take center stage in season 5. But when I think of kids singing on this show, the first thing that comes to mind is Dustin and Suzy’s “Neverending Story” duet. A reprise of that is wishful thinking on my part.
Last year on Stranger Things Day, the writers revealed that the first episode of season 5 is titled The Crawl and was written by the show’s creators, the Duffer Brothers.
Here’s the list of the cast members and the characters they played in season 4: Winona Ryder (Joyce Byers), David Harbour (Jim Hopper), Millie Bobby Brown (Eleven), Finn Wolfhard (Mike Wheeler), Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin Henderson), Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas Sinclair), Noah Schnapp (Will Byers), Sadie Sink (Max Mayfield), Natalia Dyer (Nancy Wheeler), Charlie Heaton (Jonathan Byers), Joe Keery (Steve Harrington), Maya Hawke (Robin Buckley), Priah Ferguson (Erica Sinclair), Brett Gelman (Murray), Cara Buono (Karen Wheeler), Matthew Modine (Dr. Brenner), Paul Reiser (Dr. Owens), Jamie Campbell Bower (Peter Ballard), Joseph Quinn (Eddie Munson), Eduardo Franco (Argyle), Sherman Augustus (Lt. Colonel Sullivan), Mason Dye (Jason Carver), Nikola Djuricko (Yuri), Tom Wlaschiha (Dmitri), Myles Truitt (Patrick), Regina Ting Chen (Ms. Kelly), Grace Van Dien (Chrissy), Logan Riley Bruner (Fred Benson), Logan Allen (Jake), Elodie Grace Orkin (Angela), John Reynolds (Officer Callahan), Rob Morgan (Chief Powell), Amybeth McNulty (Vickie), and Freddy Krueger himself Robert Englund (Victor Creel).
It was announced back in June that Linda Hamilton is joining the cast for Stranger Things season 5. 10 Cloverfield Lane and Prey director Dan Trachtenberg will be directing an episode.
Stranger Things is produced by Monkey Massacre Productions and 21 Laps Entertainment. Series creators The Duffer Brothers serve as executive producers alongside Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen of 21 Laps Entertainment, Iain Paterson, and Curtis Gwinn.
