I don't know if it's the actual movie that's strange or that it's Michael Cera playing a villain, but either way this trailer for MAGIC MAGIC has got an odd air about it. Knowing nothing about the film, I thought it was going to turn into a comedy of sorts, which is what I expect form Cera. However, that didn't happen and it appears that Cera is doing a bit of a "break the stereotype" role, which is hard to imagine, really, as he's best known for his comedic talents. Some folks loathe him, others adore him. Me, I'm fine with ol' Michael Cera, especially after Arrested Development and SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD.
The star of the film is Juno Temple, who has seemingly began to star in everything of late. Here she plays a woman visiting a group of friends in Chile, where things slowly go from fun to frightening. At first, I thought that there's no way you could take Cera seriously as a bad guy, but thinking on it, the prospects could be really creepy. The film debuted at Sundance earlier this year and was fairly well received (our review here), but apparently not enough to get a theatrical release, as this scarer is going straight to DVD.
Take a look:
