There has now been some official casting choices for the three main characters in the upcoming N.W.A biopic, STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON. As we reported earlier this month, Ice Cube’s son O’Shea Jackson Jr. will play Cube, Jason Mitchell will play Eazy-E, and Corey Hawkins will play as Dr. Dre.
Here’s the official info from Universal followed by the cast photo:
In the mid-1980s, the streets of Compton, California, were some of the most dangerous in the country. When five young men translated their experiences growing up into brutally honest music that rebelled against abusive authority, they gave an explosive voice to a silenced generation. Following the meteoric rise and fall of N.W.A., STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON tells the astonishing story of how these youngsters revolutionized music and pop culture forever the moment they told the world the truth about life in the hood and ignited a cultural war.
In that photo you see, clockwise from top left, producer Ice Cube, director F. Gary Gray (FRIDAY, SET IT OFF, THE ITALIAN JOB), producer Dr. Dre, Corey Hawkins (Dr. Dre), Jason Mitchell (Eazy-E) and O’Shea Jackson Jr. (Ice Cube).
What do you guys think of the casting? Pretty solid if you ask me; I’m definitely looking forward to see how they handle this biopic as it will surely cover some powerful and dramatic happenings of the 1980s. I wouldn't be surprised if the first poster for the movie was just the parental advisory sticker.
STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON will hit theaters on August 14, 2015.
