Kubo lives a quiet, normal life in a small shoreside village until a spirit from the past turns his life upside down by re-igniting an age-old vendetta. This causes all sorts of havoc as gods and monsters chase Kubo who, in order to survive, must locate a magical suit of armor once worn by his late father, a legendary Samurai warrior. This particular tale is told through the majesty of stop-motion and digital animation, and you can whet your appetite with the stunning trailer below!
While stop-motion always holds a special place in my animated heart, I've found that the stories for the most recent ones leave me wanting. Now that we've seen bits from ANOMALISA and KUBO, I'm thinking 2016 is going to be a hell of a year for stop-motion! The story itself for KUBO really lends itself to this style, and if it plays as well as it looks, we should be in for a great film!
KUBO AND THE TWO STRINGS will open in theaters on August 19, 2016.
