Stillwater trailer: Matt Damon finds that secrets run deep

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

The first trailer for Stillwater has been released and the crime drama finds Matt Damon going to great lengths to prove his daughter's innocence.

Directed by Tom McCarthy, the mastermind behind the Oscar-winning film Spotlight, Stillwater follows an American oil-rig roughneck from Oklahoma who travels to Marseille to visit his estranged daughter, in prison for a murder she claims she did not commit. Confronted with language barriers, cultural differences, and a complicated legal system, Bill builds a new life for himself in France as he makes it his personal mission to exonerate his daughter. The film also stars Abigail Breslin and Camille Cottin.

McCarthy co-wrote the script with Marcus Hinchey, Marcus Hinchey, and Noé Debré, and the film was previously scheduled to be released on November 6, 2020. Like most film releases in 2020, the movie was pulled from the schedule due to the COVID-19 pandemic and will now hit screens on July 30, 2021, courtesy of Focus Features.
