Steven Spielberg’s next film confirmed as Robopocalypse!

Steven Spielberg has made up his mind on the next project he will direct. With WAR HORSE and TIN TIN in post-production, Spielberg will return to sci-fi with ROBOPOCAYLPSE.

We’ve mentioned that he’s been eying the project for a while now, but he’s officially taking the plunge to direct the feature based on the Daniel H. Wilson novel, which centers on the human race trying to survive an apocalyptic robot uprising. So hopefully it’ll be something like TERMINATOR with no time travel bullshit, and perhaps a bit like his own WAR OF THE WORLDS, but hopefully with no Dakota Fanning screaming.

He’s been following the novel since last March, before the book was even finished, but he was so pumped about it he was already making storyboards as the author wrote each new page. If something gets Stephen Spielberg this excited, I imagine it’s got to be pretty damn cool.

Shooting will start in January 2012 for a 2013 release, and the book isn’t even coming out until June 2011. I’ll definitely be looking forward to hearing more details on this one.
