Even though he swore he was done, Michael Bay has been in talks with the studio about coming back for another TRANSFORMERS. The films are so immensely profitable, it’s a no-brainer that they will keep being made, and obviously they’d like to keep the formula the same, and that means Bay.
Bay has been pushing back against this talk for a while, but a change seems to be in the air. First, Steven Spielberg talks about his thoughts on the matter to EW:
“I hope so, because I think he made the best of the three with this last one. I certainly can’t imagine anybody other than Michael being equipped to make another Transformers. He’s invented a genre and he’s got the secret formula.”
And Michael Bay was asked a similar question at the opening of a Transformers theme park ride in Asia.
“How did I know someone’s going to ask me this question today? We’re talking about it, but there’s nothing right now. I’m going to do a tiny movie first, then we’ll talk about it, if I potentially do it.”
“If I potentially do it” is a long way from “no” which is what we heard for a while now. Bay has made an insane amount of money from these films, and perhaps the paycheck would be too tempting. Maybe once he gets is “smaller” movie out of his system, he’ll be back and ready to go again.
