Steven Spielberg on a Jaws remake: “Never”

When it was speculated back in September that the Steven Spielberg co-founded production company DreamWorks would be making a distribution deal with Universal Pictures, there were rumors that the studio wanted Spielberg to be a creative force behind reboots of BACK TO THE FUTURE and JAWS.

BACK TO THE FUTURE creators Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale have remained adamant that a BTTF remake will never be made as long as they're alive, but now that the Universal/DreamWorks deal is official, where does that leave the possibility of a JAWS remake?

As it turns out, Spielberg feels pretty much the same way about remaking JAWS as Zemeckis and Gale feel about the idea of another version of their movie being made. Speaking with Deadline, Spielberg said, 

I would never remake one of my own movies — starting with Jaws — but there are Amblin titles in the library that could inspire new stories that were made popular by the films. There isn’t a single title that I’ve earmarked, but yes, I would like to."

The legendary filmmaker then repeated, 

"I would never remake Jaws."

So a remake is definitely off the table. That's great to know. But how about a sequel?
