Steven Soderbergh presents sci-fi thriller Perfect, coming in June

Clips from movies are released online to entice viewers with a preview of what the full film will have to offer, making them want to see more. Sometimes these clips have the opposite effect, though. Sometimes they show just enough to convince the viewer that the movie isn't going to be for them. That's how it went for me and the clip that's embedded below, which comes from writer/director Eddie Alcazar's upcoming dystopian sci-fi thriller PERFECT. If that 93 seconds is indicative of what it's going to be like to watch the full movie, it's clear that I would not enjoy sitting through it. This is just not for me, but I'm sure it will appeal to plenty of other viewers.

Described as "a visually rich mind-bender", PERFECT stars Garrett Wareing, Courtney Eaton, Tao Okamoto, Maurice Compte, and Abbie Cornish in the story of

an emotionally-troubled young man (Wareing). His mother (Cornish) sends him to a clinic, where modernist serenity whispers soothing promises of perfection. By planting plug-and-play characteristics directly into his own body, he is relieved of his dark, twisted visions, but his body pays the price for purity of mind.

Ted Kupper wrote the screenplay.

PERFECT was produced by Brainfeeder Films in partnership with Alcazar and Flying Lotus, who also composed the score. Steven Soderbergh served as executive producer on the film.

Flying Lotus had this to say about the project:

Brainfeeder’s film division was created to build an infrastructure for the talents of the new avant garde, the new left field, the NEXT new wave. Lotus. PERFECT is one of several collaborations I’ve worked on with Eddie Alcazar, and I’m so glad that this unique vision is ready to make its way into this world."

PERFECT will be receiving a theatrical release at New York's Village East Cinemas on May 17th and at L.A.'s Laemmle Ahrya Fine Arts on May 24th. It will then get a VOD launch exclusively at Breaker.io on June 21st.

Check out the clip below and see if PERFECT is for you.
