We won't be properly introduced to James Gunn's THE SUICIDE SQUAD until next year, but there's already a spin-off TV series in the works at HBO Max. The eight-episode series will focus on Peacemaker (John Cena), a guy who believes in peace at any cost, no matter how many people he has to kill to achieve it, and Deadline has reported that Cena's SUICIDE SQUAD co-star Steve Agee will be joining him in the series as well.
Steve Agee actually plays two roles in THE SUICIDE SQUAD, that of King Shark and John Economos, but it's the latter role that he'll be reprising for the Peacemaker series. Economos is the warden of Belle Reve Federal Penitentiary as well as an aide to Amanda Waller (Viola Davis). Agee has appeared in several James Gunn projects over the years, including SUPER, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2, and BRIGHTBURN. James Gunn is currently in the midst of writing all eight scripts for the Peacemaker series, which will explore the origins of the character, and it's expected that he'll direct a number of the episodes as well. Production on Peacemaker is scheduled to begin early next year before Gunn has to start work on GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3.
THE SUICIDE SQUAD is slated to hit theaters on August 6, 2021.
