Back in December of 2003, Stephen King published a short story called REST STOP in Esquire Magazine. The short story won the National Magazine Award for Fiction in 2004 and was later included in his 2008 collection Just After Sunset. And today we have word that Legendary is developing a feature film based on the story with Alex Perry Ross (QUEEN OF EARTH, HER SMELL) set to write and direct.
While King's original story told the tale of a man who intervenes on some horrific domestic abuse with a tire iron at an abandoned rest stop, this feature take on the material will evidently be
A propulsive cat and mouse thriller, following the twisted journey of two women after a fateful encounter at a highway rest stop.
So it looks like this new movie will be changing the main character to a female. Which works better to this guy who has read the original short story. Should be interesting! Especially considering Alex Perry Ross's involvement. For those who may have forgotten, Ross was most recently attached to direct the middle movie in FOX and HONEYMOON writer-director Leigh Janiak's upcoming trilogy based on the FEAR STREET teen novels by GOOSEBUMPS author R.L. Stine.
Craig Flores (300, 300: RISE OF AN EMPIRE) is producing REST STOP with Ali Mendes and Alex Garcia overseeing for Legendary. We'll let you know once we hear more on this new Stephen King flick. What did you think of the original short story? Let us all know below!
