This Thursday night Andres Muschietti's take on STEPHEN KING'S IT rolls out into select theaters for advanced screenings. The film will then hit good and proper this Friday leading into what is due to be one of the biggest – if not THE biggest – horror movie weekend of all time.
If the stats that Fandango has just released are any indication IT: PART I should open at the very least with $60 million. Personally, I feel even that number is super-low and the film may very well break $100 million by the end of the weekend, especially considering how good the word-of-mouth is.
While Fandango isn't releasing the actual numbers on IT's pre-sales, they did release some interesting info on "why?" people are snatching up their tickets to the newest adaptation of Stephen King's work. And the reasons may (or may not) surprise you:
Fandango's survey of more than 1,000 ticket buyers:
90% bought tickets because they've been looking forward to the "fall’s fresher movie fare"
89% were intrigued by the trailer
91% are fans of Stephen King
85% are excited to see Stranger Thing's Finn Wolfhard in his big-screen debut
On top of all that: 73% said they saw the 1990 TV mini-series, and interestingly enough, only 57% of the people surveyed identify themselves as "true horror fans."
What do you make of these stats? Do you find them as interesting as I do? Let us know what you think and how excited you are for IT in the comments below or on Facebook, Twitter, and/or Instagram!
