I remember a few years back someone asked me what horror movie I thought would have the biggest chance at the box office and I quickly responded, "A remake of STEPHEN KING'S IT."
"That or CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON and/or PET SEMATARY."
Why? Because these are three well-known original films (and 2 novels) that could be updated with fantastic modern motion pictures. We'll see if I ever end up being right about a remake of PET SEMATARY, but come the weekend of September 8th we'll know for sure about the new adaptation of IT.
And according to THR, the new film is tracking to open with at least $50 million.
This would break the record for top September debut, and if the film tops over $58 million, it would take the top spot of highest R-rated horror debut away from the current record-holder HANNIBAL.
Personally, I feel the film will open over $60 million, no problem. What do you think? Make sure to hit us up on social media and let us know on Facebook, Twitter, and/or Instagram!
