Stephen King is admitting to only walking out of one movie as an adult and it’s likely not going to make director Michael Bay or the robot Transformers very happy. The author has revealed that he walked out of Michael Bay’s first Transformers film released in 2007.
King took to his Twitter page to address novelist Linwood Barclay’s tweet which stated that he walked out of the recently released, Jurassic World: Dominion. This is when King revealed his own walk-out confession about stepping out on 2007’s Transformers. He doesn’t go into why he walked out and simply asks his followers to share the movies that they have walked out of but it’s still an interesting tidbit of information. You can check out Stephen King’s tweet below and his other tweet clearly clarifying it was Michael Bay’s first film and not the 1986 animated effort.
Transformers was an adaptation of the media franchise produced by the American toy company. Starring Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox, Tyrese Gibson, Josh Duhamel, John Turturro, and Jon Voight, the film wasn’t incredibly well-received critically at 58% rotten on Rotten Tomatoes but it did make A LOT of money. The movie went on to gross $319.2 million domestically and $709 million worldwide, making it the fifth highest-grossing film of 2007. The movie also spawned four sequels that also made a killing at the global box office but were also given a beating from film critics. 2018’s Bumblebee spinoff did receive positive notices from critics, although its $468 million worldwide gross makes it the lowest-grossing film in the franchise. A seventh installment, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, is set to be released on June 9, 2023.
I don’t think any of the Transformers films were bad enough to walk out of. In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever walked out of a movie in general. I’ve sat through some BAD stuff and I usually just wait it out until the credits roll. At a certain point, you’re just invested in seeing it through.
