Stephen King hints that The Stand could be more than just one movie

We've known for a while now that we would be seeing a new adaptation of Stephen King's best-selling novel THE STAND coming our way with THE FAULT IN OUR STARS director Josh Boone at the helm. We've had several updates on the film over the past few months, the most recent coming from Boone himself who shared that King 'absolutely loved' the script for THE STAND, with the author giving the screenplay for the "three hour, R-rated version" his approval. While making the rounds to promote the recent release of STEPHEN KING'S A GOOD MARRIAGE the Master of Horror spoke with MTV and hinted that Boone may have something far bigger in mind for THE STAND than just one film.

King shared…

“I think his take is terrific – and don’t count on it being one film, because there’s talk about doing it in an entirely different and innovative way, and I don’t want to go into that because that’s Josh’s baby. "

Considering that King's novel is a massive 1000-plus page tome it seems that it would be quite challenging to whittle the story down to fit in a single three-hour film. Is King suggesting that the story will be spread across multiple films, or could he be hinting that the tale could be expanded to include a connected TV show element? Who knows at this point? Whatever Boone’s secret mystery plans, King is clearly confident that his work is in good hands.

More on THE STAND as we hear it.
