Lars Klevberg's remake of CHILDS' PLAY (BUY IT HERE) hit Blu-ray and DVD last month and I don't know about you guys but I found the film to be an utter delight. And it looks like I'm not alone as none other than Mr. Stephen King seems to have dug the film as well.
King tweets:
The CHILD'S PLAY reboot is an erudite socio-Marxist satire of American consumerism. Well…no. Not even. But it's pretty funny.
Okay, so maybe calling the film "pretty funny" isn't the world's best recommendation. But the fact that it comes from the King of Horror must mean a bit more. As I said, I dug this remake and I hope you guys give it the time of day. If only for Mark Hamill's sweet and sinister turn as new Chucky. Some of his scenes made me laugh out loud – and that's not the easiest thing in the world to do.
The CHILD'S PLAY remake has been slapped with an R-rating for "bloody horror violence, and language throughout" and follows:
A mother (Plaza) gives her son (Bateman) a toy doll for his birthday, unaware of its more sinister nature.
The remake is directed by Lars Klevberg (POLAROID) from a screenplay written by KUNG FURY 2 writer Tyler Burton Smith with STEPHEN KING'S IT producers David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith producing. Aaron Schmidt and Chris Ferguson executive produced. Aubrey Plaza stars as Andy's Mom, along with Brian Tyree Henry as Mike, Gabriel Bateman (LIGHTS OUT) as Andy, and Mark Hamill as the voice of Chucky. Beatrice Kitsos, Ty Consiglio, and Carlease Burke co-star. CHILD'S PLAY is available on Blu-ray & DVD. If you haven't already snagged a copy, you can do so HERE.
