Stephen King and Joe Hill’s novella Throttle getting the movie treatment

I have not yet read the novella THROTTLE by Stephen King, but I am looking to do so asap. The novella, for those who are unfamiliar, was co-written by King’s son Joe. Joe Hill is known in these parts for writing the novel HORNS, which became a movie starring Daniel Radcliffe and directed by Alexandre Aja.

A Bigger Boat Productions have optioned the story and have hired John Scott III to pen write the screenplay. You may remember John Scott III as the writer of the Arnold Schwarzenegger “my daughter is a zombie” flick MAGGIE.

THROTTLE was originally published as part of a Richard Matheson tribute collection back in 2009, and took its inspiration from Matheson’s short story DUEL.

THROTTLE’s synopsis:

A motorcycle gang ride across a stark Nevada desert after a deal gone bad,. They are now pursued by a faceless trucker hell-bent on revenge. 

The story is really about the relationship between a father and son, and so it only makes sense that the novella was written by such a pair. Gotta love that.

This, of course, is only one of many King adaptations in the works currently. We also have THE DARK TOWER, GERALD’S GAME, Hulu’s CASTLE ROCK series, and a little flick called IT coming our way.

Joe Hill also has a flick in the works based on his latest novel THE FIREMAN over at FOX. And his upcoming novel SNAPSHOT is already set up over at Universal His forthcoming novella Snapshot is at Universal with Blumhouse producing.
