Stay Safe: Kate Miner of Shameless stars in pandemic horror thriller

Deadline reports that filming has wrapped on Stay Safe, a pandemic horror thriller that stars Kate Miner – who may be best known for playing the role of Tami Tamietti on 33 episodes of the Showtime series Shameless. Miner’s credits also include Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon, Persons Unknown, Necessary Roughness, Fifty Shades of Black, and Buttwhistle. I had never heard of Buttwhistle until I looked at Miner’s résumé, but once I saw that title there was no way I could leave it off a list of credits. Up until 2014, Miner was usually credited as Kate Lang Johnson.

Carlos V. Gutierrez (Locked In) directed Stay Safe from a screenplay by David Gregg, Gia Neri, and Rolando Vinas, based on a story by Clarence Williams IV. Here’s the synopsis:

Stationed on the front lines of a Pandemic Hot Zone, the pic follows Army Surgeon Eva’s attempt to uncover the truth behind a subliminal message she received from a patient, while dealing with the unexpected arrival of an illegal immigrant into her home.

Miner is joined in the cast by Jason Canela (The Rookie), Daniela Delfino (The Awakening), Katalina Viteri (Midnight in the Switchgrass), Nick Benas (A Single’s Guidebook to Love), Chip Lane (The Mulligan), Alexandra Pica (Tethered), Tomathan McGinnis (I Wish I Never Met You), and Teo Castellanos (Trico Tri Happy Halloween).

Delfino also produced Stay Safe with Joseph Cohen and Alex Cohen. The film is coming to us from American Entertainment Investors, Synkronized Films, and Ellipsis Capital.

More than two years deep into a real pandemic, I don’t have a lot of interest in horror movies about pandemics at this time, and Stay Safe hasn’t told me enough to change my mind at this time. But if it gets good word of mouth, I’ll give it a chance.
