With MGM and New Form preparing to launch their new STARGATE ORIGINS series, fans of the long-established universe-hopping sci-fi spectacle have been wondering who will lead the franchises next foray into the stars and beyond. Today, it's been announced that Australian actress Ellie Gall (ASH VS EVIL DEAD, PUBERTY BLUES) will lead the new 10-episode digital series as a young Catherine Langford, the daughter of the archaeologist Professor Paul Langford.
Penned by Mark Ilvedson and Justin Michael Terry and directed by Mercedes Bryce Morgan (VIRTUAL MORALITY, MANIFEST MIND), the newest installment of the Stargate saga will explore Catherine's early history of being involved with the remarkable portal. As an aspect of the show, fans will follow Catherine as she embarks on an unexpected adventure to unlock the mystery of what lies beyond the Stargate in order to save Earth from unimaginable darkness. The series will air exclusively on MGM’s new digital platform Stargate Command later this year.
Furthermore, former STARGATE ATLANTIS actor Connor Trinneer will board the new program as Catherine’s father, Professor Langford. For those of you who are familiar with the series lore, you'll remember that it was Professor Langford who first discovered the Stargate portal on the Giza plateau in 1928, when Catherine was just a child.
Also set to appear in STARGATE ORIGINS are actors Salome Azizi, Philip Alexander, Michelle Jubilee Gonzalez, Daniel Rashid, Sarah Navratil, Shvan Aladdin, Tonatiuh Elizarraraz, Derek Chariton, Justin Michael Terry and Lincoln Werner Hoppe. With Gall now tapped to lead the show, more information is bound to start portaling in about this exciting sci-fi revival. I used to watch STARGATE SG-1 like a fiend! Christopher Judge's Teal'c was my man and I enjoyed all of the ridiculous off-world hats that so many of the alien species liked to wear. Seriously, there were some really strange hats on that show.
