Spoilers for Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels. The seventh and final season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars is nearing its end, and the latest episode which debuted on the Disney+ streaming service last week featured one hell of a lightsaber duel between Ahsoka Tano and Darth Maul. In an effort to add a little more punch to the duel, Star Wars: The Clone Wars creator Dave Filoni filmed the battle with real actors in mo-cap suits, and Lucasfilm/Disney has released a new featurette which goes behind-the-scenes of the epic battle.
You might notice that the actor performing Darth Maul was none other than Ray Park himself, who played the role in THE PHANTOM MENACE and SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY. Lauren Mary Kim took on the role of Ahsoka Tano for the mo-cap battle, and as you can see from the behind-the-scenes footage, is one hell of a stunt performer. Sam Witwer and Ashley Eckstein voiced the characters, with the Lucasfilm animation team giving the mo-cap footage an ample helping of Clone Wars style. The end result was quite spectacular. The penultimate episodes of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Shattered, will find Ahsoka Tano planning to deliver Maul to the Jedi Council on Coruscant, but when Order 66 is declared in the midst of her journey, Ahsoka's world is turned upside down. Friends become foes, and enemies become allies when the episode debuts on Disney+ on May 1st, followed by the series finale, Victory and Death, on May 4th.
